Knowledge teaches us :-
- How to use our senses
- How to observe
- How to evaluate
- A state of knowing
- Having clear perceptions of facts
- Cognition
Wisdom on the other hand:
- Is the state of lifelong experiences
- Being the caretaker of the divine within
- You must seek knowledge to awaken wisdom
In 1934 the poet, TS Eliot wrote:
Where is the Life we have lost in living?
Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge?
Where is the knowledge we have lost in information?
Proverbs 2:6 (NIV)
For the Lord gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding
Isaiah 11:2 (NIV)
The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him –
The Spirit of wisdom and of understanding,
The Spirit of counsel and of might
Mentoring: If we then look at Mentoring – is this not then the true meaning of wisdom?
I always pictured wisdom as a wise old man with white hair and a long white beard - a pensive man of few words who offered profound, thought-provoking advice after great deliberation.
We like to rely on “wizards”, in the world of Computers for instance we have a “wizard” available to make many tasks easier.
James 1:5 (NIV)
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God,
who gives generously to all without finding fault,
and it will be given to you
Proverbs 4:7 (CSB)
Wisdom is supreme – so get wisdom.
And whatever else you get, get understanding
As Stephen Covey says:
Whatever is at the center of our life
will be the source of our security, guidance, wisdom, and power.
To acquire wisdom, we need to:
- Permeate ourselves with the Wisdom in the Word of God
- Take responsibility for our own destiny
- Set specific goals for ourselves
- Decide on what action to take
Finally:
Knowledge is to take your state of knowing
to the level of having the ability to use wisdom
to make the difference and to have the ability to live with purpose
